Almost all of them point in one direction: AI that does not just answer questions, but actually gets tasks done. New Gemini models, agents inside Search, a redesigned Gemini app, smarter glasses and a long list of tools for builders — here is what matters, in plain language.

Table of Contents

Toggle

New Gemini models: faster brains, creative video

Search turns into an assistant that works for you

The Gemini app gets its own agents

Big upgrades for builders and workers

Glasses, video questions and checking what is real

New Gemini models: faster brains, creative video

The headline launch was Gemini 3.5 Flash, the first model in Google’s newest series. It is built to combine top-level intelligence with speed, and Google says it beats the previous flagship model on tough coding and agent benchmarks while costing far less to run. It is available now through the Gemini API, Google AI Studio and Android Studio, and a more powerful Gemini 3.5 Pro is being used inside Google and rolling out soon.

Alongside it came Gemini Omni, a model designed to create content from almost any input — text, images, audio or video. It starts with video, and it understands real-world physics like gravity and movement, so generated scenes look more believable. Its lighter version, Omni Flash, is rolling out in the Gemini app and Google Flow, and you can even try it free inside YouTube Shorts Remix. Videos made with Omni carry an invisible SynthID watermark so they can be identified later.

Search turns into an assistant that works for you

Search got what Google calls its biggest upgrade in over 25 years. AI Mode — the conversational search experience — has passed one billion monthly users, and Gemini 3.5 Flash is now its default model worldwide. The new search box accepts text, images, files, videos and even open Chrome tabs, and AI Overviews now flow directly into AI Mode so you can keep asking follow-up questions.

The most futuristic idea is information agents. You will be able to create agents inside Search that watch topics for you around the clock — tracking news, prices, sports or finance — and send you a tidy summary when something changes. They arrive this summer for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Search is also getting a “Universal Cart” that follows your shopping across Search, Gemini, YouTube and Gmail, watches for price drops, and lets you check out with Google Pay.

The Gemini app gets its own agents

A new feature called Gemini Spark is a personal AI agent that works in the background, even while your phone is off, handling digital chores under your direction. Google stresses it checks with you before major actions; a beta starts with trusted testers and Ultra subscribers in the US. Daily Brief is simpler and ready sooner: it works overnight, reads your inbox, calendar and tasks, and hands you a prioritized digest each morning.

The app itself was redesigned under a style Google calls “Neural Expressive,” with richer, more visual answers instead of plain walls of text, and a faster Gemini Live that opens instantly and handles background noise better.

Big upgrades for builders and workers

For developers, Google pushed Antigravity, its agent-first development platform: a new 2.0 desktop app that can run several coding agents in parallel, plus a command-line version and an SDK. “Managed Agents” in the Gemini API let a single call spin up an agent with its own sandbox to write code, manage files and browse the web. AI Studio can now build native Android apps and publish them to a test track with one click.

At work, Gmail’s AI Inbox drafts replies for you, Docs Live lets you create documents by talking, and Keep turns rambling voice notes into organized lists. A new creative tool, Google Pics, builds and edits images with fine control. Google also announced a $100-per-month AI Ultra plan for heavy users — while AI Pro now includes YouTube Premium Lite at no extra cost.

Science got its own spotlight with Gemini for Science, a bundle of experimental tools that help researchers form and debate hypotheses, test thousands of code variations in parallel, and search scientific papers with structured, comparable summaries. Work that once took research teams months can now be drafted in days — an early sign that agents may change laboratories just as much as offices.

Glasses, video questions and checking what is real

Android XR is moving to “intelligent eyewear”: audio glasses from partners including Gentle Monster, Warby Parker and Samsung arrive this fall, with display glasses to follow. YouTube is testing “Ask YouTube,” a conversational search that assembles answers from videos and Shorts. And because AI content is everywhere, SynthID verification — asking “was this made with AI?” — is expanding from the Gemini app into Search and Chrome, with support for C2PA content credentials that show whether a photo is an untouched original.

Taken together, I/O 2026 was not about one gadget. It was about Google betting that the next era of the internet is agentic: software that plans, acts and reports back — in search, in your apps and, soon, on your face.

Source: Google — https://blog.google/innovation-and-ai/technology/ai/google-io-2026-all-our-announcements/

[4

post-273","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tech","generate-columns","tablet-grid-50","mobile-grid-100","grid-parent","grid-33
["GET
